My eyes!!
We watched “Food, Inc.” on Saturday night; I’m not sure I’ll ever be the same again. I have long been interested in eating more organic and “natural” foods, we already buy organic milk, eggs and vegetables; but it’s just been too cost prohibitive to go all out and incude meat in that equation.
Well, now it’s a non issue. If I can’t afford to buy the certified organic meat, fish or chicken, then I’m not eating it. Period. Once the freezer is empty of it’s current stock of meat products, the new chapter begins. We may even begin smoking our own ham & bacon!
This movie disturbed me in so many ways, I don’t even know where to begin.
I coincidentally bought Alicia Silverstone’s book, “the Kind Diet” last week after catching her on Oprah; whilst channel surfing mind you – I saw Michael Pollan and had to stop!! She has some interesting things to say so far – her and her husband are completely vegan and eat a macrobiotic diet. The health benefits she experienced when she switched her diet are impressive, even if only half of them are true I would like to get that half! One of the main things she noticed was a change in her skin; I’ve notice my skin getting worse over the past year, and would love if a simple diet change could make a difference.
Last week I also had my first outing to a Vegan restaurant, Darbster, in West Palm Beach. It was surprisingly good! The “meat” dishes were pretty great, and I was shocked at how tasty and meat-like it was. Not to mention they have some decent beer (Harpoon IPA, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Bells Oberon to name a few), all in all a lovely, meatless, satisfying dinner! Also the wonderful company of Brent, Mars & Bobby didn’t hurt either

I have a friend that was recently diagnosed with Polychondritis, and she is removing animal protein from her diet as opposed to a lifetime of steroids. Seems to wokr for some she has read about.
Amazing how toxic the standard American fare can be… I for one, will bury my head in the sand until I finally am ready to do the hard work of being really healthy.

Yeah, I've been burying my head since reading "What to Eat" by Marion Nestle and the Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan last year. Food, Inc. just pushed me over the edge.
