I love Michael Ruhlman. I have to admit my intro to him was via my favourite travel show “No Reservations” with Anthony Bourdain, none-the-less his no nonsense approach to food impresses me. He wrote a great blog post a couple of weeks ago about why he cooks; and it really boils down to one thing – it gives him pleasure.

I have to agree. I cook because it helps me wind down from a long day. I cook because I love the look on my family and friends faces when they taste something delicious that I made. I cook because it’s better for us, not to mention cheaper. I guess I home brew beer for the same reasons!

Dish of the week for me? A brown ale braised pot roast with a beer and bacon gravy. That’s right; BEER AND BACON people!! I actually used a recipe from the Food & Wine 2009 cookbook that I received unsolicited in December…I meant to return it, but got sidetracked. Lucky for us :)
