Those of you who know me, know my culture clash story; Protestant-ly raised Aussie girl meets Jewish-ly raised boy…hilarity and marriage ensue.

My first experience of Brent’s family was at a holiday dinner…about 2 months into our relationship! It was Rosh Hashanah 2005 and I had the pleasure of meeting the majority of the family, minus his parents, over a traditional holiday meal; unfortunately for me, that included the dreaded gefilte fish. Good lord that stuff is vile. But, as the story is told to newcomers; the delightfully polite Australian girl ate the whole thing with a smile on her face, while they all watched in eager anticipation for the spit out. It didn’t happen – even though I wanted to!

Well, this year I’m in charge! *evil laugh* The gefilte is being replaced with Sean Paxton’s Hush Puppies with Cajun IPA Remoulade! YES!

This year we have the West Coast contingent of the family with us in Florida, which means my fellow shiksa, my sister-in-law will be out here to have my back! Yay!! Us protestantesques are severely outnumbered by the chosen people this Easter/Passover season, so we’ll really need to bring it all if Jesus is to prevail in the Jesus vs. Elijah showdown on Sunday!

We are doing a seder-ish type event, but this year instead of the more traditional Ashkenazi (Western/Central Euprope) passover meal, we are doing a Sephardic seder; which for the most part is meditteranean and middle eastern influenced.

Here’s how the menu is looking thus far:

Morroccan Meatballs
Polpette di Petto di Pollo (Italian Chicken meatballs)
Hush Puppies with Cajun IPA Rémoulade
Pastelicos Di Carné (meat filled pastries)
Spinach Patties
Beet Maror with Matzoh
Chicken Tagine
Roast Lamb with gravy
Mixed Roasted Vegetables (Potato + whatever arrives in the organic box!)
Mixed Leafy Green salad
Hungarian Chocolate-Walnut Torte

Unfortunately a party-poopery husband informed me this week that beer is NOT Kosher for Passover (far stricter than regular Kosher-ness). Well. My Jimmy Page Pilsener will be ready for consumption on Sunday, so whoever is willing to risk Elijah’s wrath can join me on Jesus’ side of the ring. That is all.
