As most of you that read this blog are well aware, my family are not here in the USA, they are at home in Australia. This often leads me to a huge bout of homesickness at Christmas. Usually Brent and I keep a low profile on Christmas day, mostly joining the Jewish folk of South Florida at the movies, or heading to the beach for a more typical Aussie Christmas Day; never really throwing a huge Christmas Day bash. This is mainly because his family usually heads to California to visit my brother & sister-in-law and niece for Christmas, and all of our close friends here have family close by.
This year the in-laws were in California at the end of October, so they are here to spend the holiday with their other shiksa daughter-in-law! Christmas Eve dinner is at my house this year; here’s the menu!
Beer-brined Turkey with Pancetta-Sage gravy
Roasted Butternut Squash soup
Fennel, Wild rice & Prosciutto Stuffing
Chipotle Cranberry sauce
Green beans with garlic & pecans
Creamed corn pudding
Potato Gratin
I’m excited about the market I finally made my way over to yesterday, called Bedner’s. They’re one of only a handful of family owned and operated farms in FL – while they aren’t organic, which I would prefer, they have a great selection of gorgeous, fresh & local vegetables and fruits. Have to love that smaller carbon footprint! Also, I think this could be the prettiest corn I think I have ever seen!
I’m going to share the recipes and some pics in the next couple of days once we’re past it, and I prove they’re worthy of sharing!
Hope you all have a great holiday, Christmas celebrators or no!

Awwww… sounds delicious & fun! But you can make this your yearly tradition anytime- the only year Ron & Robbie have come out to CA for the holidays was in 2007 when you all came out & I was pregnant with Ayla. They usually come out in Oct. & Jan.
Apparently I was deluded…but they are usually out of town with friends I’ve been told!
Well, if you keep feeding them this way they may never leave town again!
